Adonijah listened to his older cousins rave about Scott Mission Camp for as long as he could remember. He hoped that one day, he might get to go as well to experience hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, singing by the campfire, and so much more.
So, it was a happy day when Adonijah discovered his wish had come true! “My auntie told my mom about the camp, and she signed me up,” he says with a smile.
But Adonijah says that when the big day finally came, he was homesick and overwhelmed. “It was scary for me because I didn’t really know anyone,” he recalls. “But by the third day, I started getting used to it. Later, I met a lot of people and made one special friend.
“I’ve been coming for five years now. I just really like it here. I like the activities—swimming, archery, biking, and the sports courts,” he says.
Adonijah has seen some of the truly special things that happen at camp to help young people grow in their confidence and faith. “You’re always going to have one unforgettable experience, and you’ll always cherish that moment,” he recounts. “I feel like I’ve gotten a better connection with God and Jesus. Now, I’m starting to go to church with my grandma every Sunday.”
With the next Scott Mission Camp only weeks away, boys and girls like Adonijah are giving thanks for the donors who make camp possible, and they’re counting the days until they are reunited with the friends and counsellors who will make this summer their best yet . . .
Thank you for giving generously now to give children across Toronto the opportunity to attend summer camp, experience the wonder of nature, and learn about God’s love!
