This Thanksgiving, Akilah and her friends will be giving thanks to caring friends and donors like you. They know that without your support, Scott Mission Camp wouldn’t exist!
“I first came to The Scott Mission when I was in grade three or four,” Akilah says. “I’d heard about it through my friends who have been going since grade two. I was a pretty shy kid, so I was nervous, but being able to play games with the other kids and then sitting down to a Bible lesson was actually pretty cool.”
Sixteen now, Akilah is very different from the shy child who first came through the Mission doors. She credits the after-school program and Scott Mission Camp’s counsellors with building her confidence, growing her faith, and giving her quality role models.
Akilah has seen how children and teens blossom under the loving guidance showered on them by The Scott Mission staff and counsellors. The experiences have spurred her to consider becoming a camp counsellor, too, and ultimately to become a doctor.
“I have recommended Scott Mission Camp to other friends. I tell them that if they’re looking for somewhere to hang out to learn about faith and make new friends, this place is great.”
Without the gifts from caring friends and donors, Akilah says many of the children and teens would not be able to attend summer camp or the after-school programs. “I’m thankful to donors, because without them there’d be no programs and I’ve seen lives changed because of The Scott Mission. I had friends who’d been into really dangerous things, but then they came to the Mission. One night I had a friend who gave their life to the Lord, it was very emotional and changed their life.”
Only with your generous, ongoing support can The Scott Mission continue to provide wholesome character- and faith-building programs, and activities that put young lives on a better path. Thanks for making a gift today!
