The Scott Mission Food Banks Are a Lifeline for Struggling Neighbours

Families and individuals across the GTA are struggling to afford food. Often, after rent and bills are paid, there is little left for groceries. With the onset of the pandemic, hunger hit crisis levels for many people, and their challenges continue today.

The Scott Mission has been committed to feeding the hungry since opening our doors 80 years ago. In order to help more neighbours facing hunger, we maintain food banks where people can access nutritious food at no cost to them—including fresh fruit and produce, dairy products, meats, and shelf-stable items.

For neighbours like Rosalie, the food bank at our O’Connor Family Centre is an important source of food and joy in her life. She says, “I can hardly wait until Tuesdays because I come to get food . . . but I also get to see the staff. They really make you feel at home.

“The pandemic has affected our family very much. I really appreciate The Scott Mission—and to donors, I want to say thank you . . . we are really grateful. The donors are generous, and they are helping a lot of families in a challenging situation.”

Another neighbour agrees with Rosalie, saying, “I’ve been coming here for over a year. It’s been a really big help for us. It’s tough with four kids. My husband works, but he hasn’t been able to get a lot of work. I’m getting spiritual help as well, and the staff are very friendly.”

“I love coming here; I love it!” says Inez, a beloved community member. Without access to the nutritious food offered here, many families like these will struggle to put food on the table.

So, thank you for sharing another gift today to help neighbours facing hunger get the nutritious food they, and their loved ones, need from The Scott Mission’s food banks! The meals and groceries you help provide are a great blessing to people who are in need!

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” —Matthew 25:35 ESV
